Email sent to the class Oct 20 2001 concerning the practice midterm key: I hate to have to say this, I thought I'd checked it carefully, but there are a couple of errors on the key which have just been reported to me. I have revised the key and put it up on the web page again in case anyone wants to see the repairs in context, but the errors that have so far been caught are: 1(ii) DS: There are two problems with the DS tree. They are:
Neither problem appears in the SS tree on the next page, so you can refer to the DP and PP in that structure to see what it was supposed to look like in the DS tree. 1(iv) SS: There is a major problem with the arrows and traces indicating movement. There are two arrows shown -- but the tails of the two arrows are reversed (and, what's worse, the indices are also reversed). What should be illustrated there is T moving to C and the subject DP moving from SpecVP to SpecTP. To repair this, you could reverse the indices of the two traces (so that t/i is in the specifier of VP and t/j is where T used to be, heading TP) and then reverse the tails of the two arrows Again, I apologize profusely for not catching these before the key went out. A revised PDF file containing the key is available for anyone who wants it. Nothing else will have changed on the key except what was indicated above. |
