Minutes Date Of Meeting: Tuesday, 5/2/06 2. Linda will let the group know when we will be meeting with Eldon. 3. Each of us selected another
Project SAILS skill set to develop into an outline . We'll post these
outlines ahead of time if they're ready, otherwise we'll bring copies
to the meeting on Tuesday. Skill Set 8- Evaluating and
Revising Search Results (EM) Summary of 5/2 Meeting 1. Distance Education Conference Tom reported briefly on his experience at the Distance Education conference in Georgia. The most relevant talk was on the University of Calgary's project for distance learners. 2. Meeting with Eldon Strickland We will schedule a meeting with
Eldon Strickland, Associate Director of On-Line Programs, to discuss the
big picture and make sure we're all on the same page. Some of the topics
we'll discuss include EZProxy and the Library's web site, Captivate tutorials,
and the timing of adding or updating the module. 3. Distance Education meeting Tom is meeting with the Distance Education staff tomorrow and will ask Nancy Coleman how she envisions use of the Library's module. Will this be as a link from their top page, embedded in specific courses, or both? Tom will ask Nancy if they would like to collaborate on surveying a sample of current students in distance education courses about the topics to be covered in this module. 4. Staff Involvement In order for this project to be successful we need the participation of staff in making sure we create a useful module. We will welcome input and feedback from staff throughout the process. We will contact representatives from Law, Theology, and Medical to make sure they know about this project and feel free to give feedback. 5. ShowMe ShowMe has enormous potential for enriching the module. We need to figure out if it can be incorporated into the module or if it should be linked to as appropriate. We will ask Susan for her input on how this should be used or if any updating needs to be done. 6. Captivate It would be terrific if we could include tutorials for specific resources in the Library module. Databases that seem appropriate for the generic module include BU's catalog, Library's web site, WorldCat, Web of Science, and the Wilson Databases. 7. Meeting Tomorrow with Reference Staff Tomorrow we would like to share with staff the idea and objectives of this project and the possibilities for the future. We would like to solicit ideas on what issues should be covered in this module and discuss with staff channels for communicating throughout the process. 8. Reviewing Modules We reviewed the first few modules which had been outlined.
