System Requirements
- Apple Macintosh with Intel x86 or Power PC G4 or G5 processor, running Mac OS X 10.3, 10.4 or [Note: The previous compatibility problem with Mac 0S X 10.5 has been corrected with the latest client version].
- Minimum of 65 MB of available disk space.
- Monitor: color monitor.
- Printer: a high-quality graphics printer, e.g., laser or inkjet, is recommended.
- Web Browser: Safari or Mac OS X compatible version of Netscape, Firefox, or Microsoft Internet Explorer. Web browser needed to access full text, online help, and other internet resources with the Tools menu. Java and javascript must be enabled.
- Adobe Reader version 5+ is needed to display PDF documents on the CAS web site and ChemPort.
- Internet Connection: SciFinder requires a TCP/IP connection capable of exchanging Z39.50 protocol packets with the CAS server over port 210.
Downloading and Installing
- Click here to begin downloading the client.
- You will be prompted for your BU login username and Kerberos password. [This is the same username/password you use on ACS.] After you press login, the download will begin.
- The file sfs2007a.dmg will be downloaded automatically into your default download folder [probably your desktop].
- You will be prompted with the message "sfs2007a.dmg contains an application...continue downloading?" Click continue and the sfs2007a.dmg file will appear on the desktop.
- If you see a window that says "SciFinder Scholar 2007 for Mac OS X", close it.
- Start the Finder from the Dock [the Dock is the menu bar across the side or bottom on the screen].
- In the left pane of the Finder window, click on Applications. The Applications folder will open in the right pane of the Finder.
- On the desktop you will see an icon called "SciFinder Scholar 2007". [If you don't see the icon called "SciFinder Scholar 2007", double-click on the file sfs2007a.dmg to create it.] Double click on the icon, and a window appears with the text "SciFinder Scholar 2007 for Mac OS".
- Within this window note the SciFinder Scholar icon on the white button. Drag and drop the SciFinder Scholar Application Package (the SciFinder Scholar icon on the white button) into your Applications folder.

- Click here to download the sitepref.zip file. You may be prompted for your BU login username/password.
- The sitepref.zip file will download to your default download folder [probably your desktop] and will probably be automatically unzipped into the folder Scifinder Scholar. [If you don't see the Scifinder Scholar folder, double-click sitepref.zip to create it.]
- Move back to the Finder. In the left pane of the Finder window, click on your username. In the right pane open the Library folder. Then open the Application Support folder.
- Drag the newly created SciFinder Scholar folder into the Application Support folder.

- In the left pane of the Finder window, click on Applications. Start SciFinder by double-clicking on the Scifinder icon. You will connect to the CAS/SciFinder database.

- Clean up by dragging the file sitepref.zip [if it exists] and the desktop icon "SciFinder Scholar 2007" to the trash.
