New Staff: introducing Brett & Marci

Marci Cohen (11/23/15- ) replaces Sarah Hunter who recently became Electronic Inventory Manager for the Libraries. Marci   comes to us from the Berklee School and is our new Assistant Head. At Berklee she did reference, evaluated electronic resources, supervised interns and numerous student workers, and instructional sessions. Her faculty were “crazy about her.” She most recently had embarked on analysis of LMS products that Berklee was exploring for possible migration as  they move forward as a school. Marci’s areas of expertise are popular music, rock, and the music industry.  She has over two decades of experience as a freelance music journalist, is an experienced interviewer, and has also worked nearly a decade and a half in trademark clearance and preparation of litigation material for an intellectual property law firm.  For nearly 8 years she was multimedia librarian at the Northbrook , IL, Public Library.  She has experience in usability testing and analysis.  In addition to her music and MSLIS degrees, she holds a B.S. in Economics  from Wharton with dual majors in accounting and entrepreneurial management. She’s currently a member of the MLA’s Education Committee, and, Coordinator of the MLA’s  Jazz and Popular Music Round Table. With co-author Grover Baker, her most recently published article is ” Takin’ Care of Business: Music Business Reference” in Music Reference Services Quarterly 18/3-4 (2015), 157-163.

Brett Kostrzewski (8/23/15- ) replaces Kate Stringer who now works in the Gotlieb Archives as their Research and Public Information Administrator. Brett’s our Reserves and Instruction Coordinator, and Evening/Weekend supervisor. In addition to Brett’s library experience prior to this position, Brett’s a part-time doctoral student in choral conducting and musicology. He’s the music director at St. Clement’s, Boston, an editorial assistant for Blue Heron Vocal Ensemble (preparing modern editions from original sources), and he’s preparing an edition of the complete Magnificats of Gombert for Antico Editions. Brett has held various teaching assistantships, has coached singers, and as part of his work in music is also an organist and singer. In addition to music degrees, he holds a B. S. in Aerospace Engineering and has worked in Buffalo, NY, for Genesee Gateway (adaptive re-use of property in downtown) and Larkin Development (RE) in a variety of work with employees, tenants, vendors, and in management.
