Fun Facts: 2015 Halloween Consumer Spending
According to the National Retail Federation, more than 157 million Americans are planning to celebrate Halloween this year, with total spending expected to reach $6.9 billion. Most consumers plan to celebrate the holiday by handing out candy (67.8%), however many will also dress up in costume (43.5%), carve pumpkins (41%), or attend a party with friends and family (31.5%).
An estimated 68 million Americans will dress up this Halloween at an overall cost of more than $2 billion, while another 20 million pet owners will dress up their pet at an overall cost of $350 million. Top costumes for adults, children and pets are expected to include Minions and Star Wars characters. The top adult costumes are anticipated to include a witch, characters from Star Wars and Batman, animal characters, and a zombie. Top children’s costumes are expected to include a princess, a superhero, characters from Disney’s Frozen, characters from Star Wars, and Minions. Finally, top pet costumes are likely to include a pumpkin, a hot dog, a Batman character, the devil, a bumblebee, Star Wars characters, a princess, or Minions.
