Facing the Screen Dilemma: Young Children, Technology and Early Education (2012)

As the Education librarian at BU, I often get asked about where to find research on the effects of technology on children.

This recent report from the Alliance for Childhood, the Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood, and Teachers Resisting Unhealthy Children’s Entertainment, details many effects in clear and concise language.  The report contains numerous references to recent, peer-reviewed studies.  Some of the risks of too much screen time for a child can include later emotional problems, poor school performance, childhood obesity, the loss of imaginative play, sleep disturbance, and other harms.
