The Virtual Catalog, the rapid book borrowing service of the Boston Library Consortium (BLC), will cease operation on July 14.  The Interlibrary Loan (ILL) service will still be available for book and journal article requests from the BLC or other libraries throughout the nation.

The library is currently working to bring the improved replacement service, Boston Library Consortium WorldCat, online later this summer.  This new unified catalog will provide better Interlibrary Loan (ILL)  service for requests both within the the 20 Boston Library Consortium libraries and also outside the consortium. Users will be able to simultaneously discover materials owned by BU, the Boston Library Consortium (BLC), and libraries beyond the BLC. Library users will also be able to make all ILL requests from this same interface. The high level of service for Interlibrary Loan requests will continue and materials from BLC libraries will still arrive in a timely manner (usually under a week).

We hope you will find this new system much better for your research. Please check this column for future announcements.
