in Science and Engineering Library

Boston University Libraries have recently made two major acquisitions in the earth sciences field.

The first acquisition is Elsevier’s ScienceDirect Earth and Planetary Sciences Backfiles collection.  This purchase extends the library’s online access to back issues of 98 journals as far as 1937.  The journals in the collection cover all major fields of earth and planetary sciences.  Titles include Geochimica et Cosmochimica Acta from 1951, Earth and Planetary Science Letters from 1966, Tectonophysics from 1964, Atmospheric Environment from 1967, and Chemical Geology from 1967.

The second acquisition is the Treatise on Geophysics, edited by Gerald Schubert.  To quote from the publisher’s blurb, the Treatise is a “comprehensive, state-of-the-art, and integrated summary of the present state of geophysics. Offering an array of articles from some of the top scientists around the world, this 11-volume work deals with all major parts of Solid-Earth Geophysics.”  An overview of the Treatise can be viewed online; the actual volumes are now on the reference shelves of the Science & Engineering Library, with call number QC806.T73 2007.  Also check out the related Treatise on Geochemistry on the reference shelves with call number QE515.T69 2004.
