Reserves
On-site reserves: place scores, spoken and music recordings, books, articles,
and personal copies; send requests to musiclib@bu.edu or ring 617-353-3705.
Online reserves: sound recordings via web links or via Blackboard,:
- Request a Blackboard site for your course at http://blackboard.bu.edu under Help, create blank site
- Add musiclib in the role of Course Builder
- Submit the list of repertiore you would like to musiclib@bu.edu (or indicate on your site)
- Include special performance or organizational instructions
alternate path to request a Blackboard site:
- Go to the Boston University Faculty Central
- Click: Blackboard 8 (near the bottom of the page)
- Click: Create a course site
- Login with your Kerberos password.
- Click: Help tab
- Click: Create a blank site
- Follow instructions to create your site. Within 24 hours you should receive directions in an e-mail about accessing your new site. Add musiclib as a course builder so that we may add audio examples.
to add the Music Library as Course Builders:
- Open your site
- Choose Control Panel (bottom button on left hand side)
- Under user management (Right hand side) choose "Enroll User"
- Search by username "musiclib"
- Return to control panel
- Choose "List / Modify Users"
- Search by username "musiclib"
- Select "Properties"
- Under Role and Availability, select "Course Builder" if it is not already selected
- Click "Submit"
Instruction
Schedule orientations or arrange for support for courses, thesis writers, and research projects with Holly Mockovak, Sarah Hunter or Lena Serpa by email or by phone (617-353-3705).
Loans
Your loan period is 19 weeks with two renewals. With a PIN (personal identification number), access your patron record via the library catalog and renew your own items. Set your PIN in person at main circulation, Mugar Memorial Library (617-353-3732).
To authorize your teaching assistants to borrow library materials on your behalf, submit a letter on official stationary, accompanied by your photo ID, at main circulation, Mugar Memorial Library (617-353-3732).
Recordings
Recordings may leave the library as needed. You may also send a list to authorize student borrowers for classroom presentations. Please send lists to musiclib@bu.edu
Naxos & More
If you are interested in creating a customized class listening list within the Naxos Music Library, please obtain your password from a supervisor at the Music Library.
In addition to the permanent audio collection, Naxos is one of four online audio subscription services. For more information, see the Audio Collections section at the top of the Music database page.
Mugar Classrooms 203 and 205
Regular semester classroom scheduling for Mug 203 and Mug 205 is arranged via your school's departmental room assignment coordinator who will work through the registrar's room management system. Use your coordinator also for "one shot" inquiries. (Mugar staff cannot assign these room).
Sunday scheduling or other "after hours" inquiries should go to gsures@bu.edu, the reservations service.
Capacities & facilities: Mug 203 seats 24, Mug 205 seats 42. The A/V system is upgraded (Dec 2009) to University Media standards: ceiling-mounted projector, ethernet drop, a VHS/CD/DVD cabinet, an a/v control panel; standard and hi-def video; additionally there is a turntable, an overhead projector for transparencies, chalkboard, and an upright piano. The wireless signal reaches inside the rooms. Use "house audio" for iPod playback or bring your own dock. Your own laptop, cable is recommended. Managed by the Media Group at 617-353-3227.
Photocopy/Scanning
Personal or departmental accounts may be established at any time. Contact the photocopy depart of Mugar Memorial Library at 617-353-3722.
Several self scanning options are also available at no charge. Scanners are located in the Scan and copy center located on the 1st floor of Mugar Memorial Library
Carrels
Carrels are located on floors 4, 5 and 6 of Mugar Memorial Library. Arrange for an assignment with Timothy Riordin, Stacks/Study Carrel Coordinator at 617-353-3722.
Collection Development
We invite your continuing participation in the shaping of our collection
holdings. Individual or committee collaborations might include:
addressing needs for current or proposed courses, modes of accessing
holdings, and identification of special purchases, gifts or donors.
