Meet one-on-one with your contact librarian to help identify the best library resources for student research and keep up-to-date with library developments. (Consult contact list below.)

Collaborate to structure a library research component so as to improve student efforts and performance.
Review library-oriented research assignments with a librarian before handing them out.
Your library contact can also help keep you up-to-date with new electronic resources and changes to established ones.

Introduce students to the library with research visits.

Most first-year students are unfamiliar with negotiating a large research library.
Some are unfamiliar with call numbers and online library catalogs.

Use Mugar Room 503 to introduce students to the library's electronic resources.

Request that Mugar Room 503 be reserved for the use of your class at a designated time.
Accompany a physical visit to the library with a review of online library resources.
The library will supply a network-connected computer and projector.
Your contact librarian will confirm availability and can assist with planning.

Place materials on reserve that may be heavily used by multiple students.

Assigned research topics can result in "raids" upon circulating library materials, denying access to the rest of a class, if these items have not been placed on reserve in advance.

Mugar North Elevator (Charles River side) Out of Service

The North elevator in Mugar over by the Circulation Desk, which provides access to Room 503 and fifth floor stacks, is out of service for several months while the mechanicals are being replaced, during the period that many classes visit the library and use room 503 to review online library resources.

Alert us about students who cannot climb stairs:

If you plan to use this classroom and have a student who cannot climb stairs let us know several days in advance to make arrangements. Access can be arranged through the Howard Gotlieb Archival Research Center vault.

Access to Room 503:

By using the North stairwell - 78 stairs from the first floor to the fifth floor landing
By taking the South elevator (Commonwealth Ave. side) to the 4th floor and crossing the stacks to the North stairwell for the last flight up - 18 stairs
