Encyclopedia of Criminology and Deviant Behavior. 4 vols. 2000.
Comprehensive encyclopedia covering criminology and social deviance under four broad categories: historical, conceptual, and theoretical issues; crime and juvenile delinquency; sexual deviance; and self destructive behavior and disvalued identity. The latter volume contains the most articles about drugs and drug abuse; however, there are articles on alcohol scattered throughout the four-volume set. The War on Drugs: An International Encyclopedia. 1999.
This encyclopedia "begins with an introduction that puts the international drug trade and the war on drugs in historical perspective and follows with a chronology of key historical events covered in the encyclopedia." The 642 A-to-Z entries encompass the "legal, political, social, economic, and environmental aspects of the international drug trade and the war on drugs." Provides bibliographic coverage of current research focused on social work, human services, and related areas, including social welfare, social policy, and community development. The database abstracts and indexes over 1,500 serials publications and includes abstracts of journal articles and dissertations, and citations to book reviews.
Sociological Abstracts. 1952 - .   (BU-px).
Indexes and abstracts periodical articles, conference papers, proceedings, dissertations and book reviews in sociology.
Sport Discus. 1830 - . (BU-px).
Sport Discus is produced by the Sport Information Resource Centre. The database contains citations to articles, theses and dissertations in the areas of sports medicine, exercise psychology, biomechanics, coaching, physical education, sport law and fitness. Coverage is primarily from 1975 to the present, although citations have been selected from as far back as 1830. Many citations include descriptive abstracts. Consult this database for articles on doping, steroids, and drug abuse in sports.

Substance Abuse Treatment Facility Locator.
Maintained by the Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, this locator of alcohol and drug abuse treatment programs lists "private and public facilities that are licensed, certified, or otherwise approved for inclusion by the State substance abuse agency in which the facility is located and treatment facilities administered by the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Indian Health Service and the Department of Defense."

Substance Abuse and Mental Health Data Archive.
"The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Data Archive (SAMHDA) is an initiative of the Office of Applied Studies at the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) of the United States Department of Health and Human Services. The goal of the archive is to provide ready access to substance abuse and mental health research data and to promote the sharing of these data among researchers, academics, policymakers, service providers, and others."

Center for Substance Abuse Research (CESAR).
A research center at the University of Maryland College Park, CESAR collects, analyzes, and disseminates information on the nature and extent of substance abuse and related problems in Maryland and nationally.
Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse.
CASA, the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University, seeks to "inform Americans of the economic and social costs of substance abuse and its impact on their lives; assess what works in prevention, treatment, and law enforcement; encourage every individual and institution to take responsibility to combat substance abuse and addiction; provide those on the front lines with the tools they need to succeed; [and] remove the stigma of abuse and replace shame and despair with hope." Quality Data for Journalists and Researchers (Common Sense for Drug Policy).
Research page with links to reports on how the War on Drugs has impacted Americans. Documents include the prevalence of drug-related corruption among police officers, marijuana use among adolescents in the US and Europe, and drug testing. Common Sense for Drug Policy "is a non-profit organization dedicated to expanding discussion on drug policy by resonating the voices of those raising questions about existing law and educating the public about alternatives to current policies." Their Drug War Facts "provides reliable information with credible citations on important criminal justice and public health issues."
TRAC DEA.
TRAC DEA is a repository for comprehensive independent, and nonpartisan information about the Drug Enforcement Administration. "The Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC) is a data gathering, data research and data distribution organization associated with Syracuse University. The purpose of TRAC is to provide the American people -- and institutions of oversight such as Congress, news organizations, public interest groups, businesses, scholars and lawyers -- with comprehensive information about federal staffing, spending, and the enforcement activities of the federal government."
