As part of International Education Week (Nov. 13-17, 2017) the African Studies Library is offering the following exhibit and event:
“Celebrating African Food & Culture”
Food — we all eat. But what we eat, how we eat, and the traditions we construct around food are wonderfully diverse! Food is often at the heart of social gatherings, it brings people together. Lack of food starts wars. Food conjures up feelings of belonging and comfort; it can also make one feel very uncomfortable and out of place.

Be sure to visit the African Studies Library on the 6th floor of Mugar Memorial Library during the week and check out our exhibit on food in Africa! Browse our selection of African cookbooks, discover different kinds of foods, and take a recipe card with you to experiment making something new!

Event: Ethiopian Coffee Ceremony
The African Studies Library and the African Languages Program have joined together to present an Ethiopian Coffee Ceremony. After the ceremony, we will have an informal conversation about the ceremony and more generally food and its importance in African culture and tradition.
