Renewal - With a personal identification
number (PIN), you can access your library record and renew
your own books using the library catalog . PINs are available from circulation desk staff. Items may be renewed twice via self or phone (617-353-3733) renewal . If you need any material past the second renewal, you must bring it to the library to be checked in before it may be checked out again. Note that renewal is possible only during the week
before the due date.
Pre-Notices - A pre-notice will be sent to your email address three days prior to the due date of items checked out to your account. You must have a current email address listed on your library record to receive pre-notices.
Please ask Circulation Desk staff to add or update your email address. Note that pre-notices are available for 28-day or 19-week loans only.

Holds
and recalls
If the book you need is checked out to another
borrower, ask a member of the Circulation Desk staff to
place a hold on it for you. We will contact the borrower
and ask that it be returned within 7-14 days (i.e. recall
it) and notify you as soon as it is available. If you
prefer email rather than print notification, ask Circulation
Desk staff to add your email
address to your library record.
Storage
retrieval
The library houses over 40,000 volumes in storage consisting
primarily of the early years of journals. In the Library
Catalog the holdings statements (LIB HAS...) for journals
list which volumes are in storage. This information is
not always visible on the top screen however, so click
on the number to the left of the LIB HAS to pull up a
secondary screen with the details.
Although off-site, material from the storage collection
is readily available. Use our online
form to request a copy of an article or the retrieval
of a whole volume. Paper request forms are also available
in the library. Requests are filled daily Monday through
Friday. Retrieved items can be picked up at the Circulation
Desk after 5 pm. Call 353-3733 to check on the status
of a request.
