Finding Articles

To locate articles in business publications and newspapers, use "Find Business Articles and Data".  Select the subject of your search (i.e., Management/OB/HR/Nonprofit), the type of information (i.e., Journals & Magazine articles) and then select "Find Suggested Databases."  Databases below are among those listed.

Business Source Complete [About]
In the search box enter terms such as "organizational behavior," "human capital," "employee motivation," and "corporate culture."  Additional subject headings can be found by using the Thesaurus. Search terms can also be combined in order to narrow the search results.  To search for articles on a company and its human resources practices, enter a company name and a keyword or subject term.

ABI/INFORM Global [About]
In basic or advanced search modes, enter terms such as: "employment," "recruiting," "organizational behavior," and "human resources."  You can narrow the search by doing a combined search, entering two search terms, such as "human resources" and "benefits".  Additional terms can be found by using the "Browse Topics" function; this is located at the upper right, next to the "Tools" section.  To search for articles on a company and its human resources practices, enter a company name and a keyword or subject term.

Factiva [About]
Current news from thousands of international and local newspapers, newswires and trade journals.  Includes Wall Street Journal. Enter subject or company name in the search box.

PsycARTICLES [About]
Full text articles on current issues in psychology. Indexed from from 42 scholarly journals published by the American Psychological Association and allied organizations.

Sociological Abstracts [About]
A bibliographic database that provides access to the world's literature in theoretical and applied sociology and related fields. It contains abstracts of journal articles from Sociological Abstracts since 1974, Social Planning, Policy & Development Abstracts (SOPODA) since 1979, and citations to relevant dissertations since 1986.

The following sources are useful for answering HR/OB questions related to specific companies.

GLOBAL SOCRATES [About]
A database that measures the social and environmental performance of corporations. Socrates covers over 3,000 U.S. corporations and provides social ratings on these companies in the areas of community relations, corporate governance, diversity, employee relations, human rights, products, and the environment.  Search for company profiles by ticker or company name. 

Vault Online Career Library [About]
The Vault Career Library is available through the Feld Career Center's BU Career Link and the MBA Career Link. For access, follow the instructions in the About.

Journal & Newspaper Articles

To locate articles on companies, use "Find Business Articles and Data".  Select "Companies" as a business topic and then the type of data.   To use Factiva, type the company name into Factiva search box. Business Source Complete & ABI/INFORM Global can be searched by using the company name and key word or subject terms such as "corporate culture", "employee", "leadership", etc.

Library Catalog
The library has many books that provide background on a variety of companies. Type name of company under Subject or Keyword. Examples include: Starbucks, Yahoo, Ebay, Hewlett Packard, and many others.

Company 10K reports include some corporate structure and employee benefit information. See SEC Filings through Mergent Online or directly through EDGAR (U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission).
