Additional Services for Law Faculty Research Assistants: LexisNexis and Westlaw

Access * Printing Options * Getting Connected * Printer Etiquette

Normally, student passwords for LexisNexis and Westlaw are suspended during the summer months. However, research assistants may reactivate their passwords for law school related research. To reactivate your passwords, please go to our Summer Access to Lexis and Westlaw page.

Printing Options

There are several printing options for research assistants. Most faculty research should be printed using the stand-alone printers located on the third floor. These printers provide high-speed printing exclusively for faculty, staff, and research assistants.

Note that you cannot print PDF documents to the stand-alone printers.

Getting Connected to the Stand-alone Printers

The reference staff will enable you to use these printers with your Westlaw and LexisNexis passwords. It may take several days to complete this connection. Once your passwords are enabled, you will have the stand-alone printer as one of the printing options. Please refer to the instructions for using this option.

Printer Etiquette and Maintenance

Please remember to pick up print jobs in a timely manner from room 352. If your documents are not retrieved promptly, they may be lost. Worse, they may jam the printer, preventing other research assistants and faculty from using the printer. Print jobs will be weeded on Monday mornings. Any printouts from the previous week that are not retrieved will be discarded.

In the summer, room 352 is open Monday-Friday 9am-4:45pm. During the academic year, the room closes 15 minutes before the library closes.

Finally, kindly be judicious in the amount of printing that you do. Printing large amounts of materials at one time will lead to print jams, etc. Please print only those documents that you really need.

The stand-alone printers are maintained regularly by the reference librarians. If the printers need service, please see Russell Sweet in room 332 or stop by the reference desk. If you have any questions about using these stand-alone printers, please contact Steve Donweber, donweber@bu.edu, 353-8853; or stop by the reference desk.
