Additional Services for Law Journal Members: Holding Materials

In the Annex reading room a number of carrels have been reserved for journal members collecting materials for tech checks.

If you would like to use one of these carrels, please coordinate with your colleagues in choosing an empty carrel. Label the carrel with the name of your journal, article title and a contact name(s). This space is in high demand so please use only the number of carrels that are necessary to hold the materials for the tech check.

Please note: materials on carrels without labels are reshelved periodically.

Materials that may be held on Annex carrels

  • Photocopies and printouts
  • Annex (no check-out needed) and Pappas materials which circulate.
  • Books from other university libraries and interlibrary loan materials.

Please note: For other library's materials - the Annex is used by all Boston University students and materials held on the carrels are not secure. Materials have been taken from the carrels in the past. Journal offices may want to set aside secure areas for these types of materials.

Materials that may not be held on Annex carrels

Non-circulating materials such as reference materials, reporters, journals, looseleafs, and other materials which have a library use only designation on the book pocket - located on the inside back cover. Non-circulating materials are used by all members of the law school community and are reshelved periodically to increase availability. Materials from the upper level of the Annex (all materials on the upper level are non-circulating).

Annex Short-term HOLDS

Non-circulating materials may be held for up-to seven days on one of the study carrels not used by journals in the Annex reading room. Please fill out a HOLD BOOK Form to place with the books.

Pappas HOLDS

The Pappas reading room does not have any area we can designate to hold materials. The library may be able to set aside some space for 24 hours. Please see Terri Geiger in room 206 to arrange for this.
