Newspapers

Libraries generally keep physical copies of newspapers for a limited time. Most requests are filled from microfilm or microfiche. Because of the time that would be involved in finding an article with only the date of the paper, libraries require that these requests be very specific. In addition to the title and author of the article you will need to provide the date of issue, section name, and the beginning page of the article. If you know the column information, this should also be provided.

Often you can use an electronic version of the newspaper to find the citation. Reference librarians can also assist you in finding this information.

Remember that Lexis and Westlaw have extensive collections of newspapers.
