Health Care Law Research Guide
Researching health care law involves the same process as researching many other areas of the law. You will need to research primary materials such as statutes, regulations and case law.
Among the secondary sources that may be helpful for health care law research are journal literature on legal and medical topics and treatises & books. In addition, there are current awareness sources to help you stay current on the latest developments in health care law.
This guide also includes selected useful Health Care Law Links. Additional relevant BU Law licensed databases may be found in our Alphabetical List of Electronic Resources.
The library subscribes to a library of products from the Bureau of National Affairs (BNA).These include the Health Law and Business Library, which features portfolios on subjects related to health law and policy. Numerous BNA news updates, such as The Health Law Reporter, provide news stories on health law and frequently links to the full text of new judicial decisions, court filings, pending legislation, and other legal documents.
For a variety of primary and secondary materials on health law, labor and employment, and related topics, see IntelliConnect (formerly CCH Health and Human Resources Internet Research Network). Note: Use your BU email address to log in to IntelliConnect; first time users will need to create a password.
Please see also the Library's research portals on Health Law and Food and Drug Law.
Both Lexis and Westlaw provide topical tabs that bring together databases spanning a wide range of primary and secondary sources on health law and related topics. During a Lexis session, use the "Add/Edit Tabs" function to add "Health Care," "Medical," and "Medical Malpractice," for example. During a Westlaw session, use the "Add a Tab" feature to add "Health Law," "Medical Litigator," and "Medical Malpractice," among others.
Please consult the reference staff for assistance with your legal research related to health care law or any other subject.
