Deadlines and Visiting Scholar Fee

Although we welcome Visiting Scholar applications any time, individuals who wish to visit in the fall term, which begins at the end of August, are encouraged to commence the application process early enough so that their applications can be completed by March 1. In all cases, applications should be completed no later than six months prior to the proposed visit.

Visiting Scholars pay a fee, and most are supported by funding sources in their home countries or through sabbatical-leave salaries from their home institutions. No financial aid, stipends, or housing are available for the program.

The fee for Visiting Scholar stays commencing after July 1, 2006 is $5000 for an academic year. In cases where the length of stay will be less than a full academic year, the fee will be $2500 per semester or any part thereof.

Individuals whom we invite to visit will be provided with information about visas and other important details. They will also be asked to supply financial documentation to support their visa applications. Such documents must be originals, in English, which certify financial ability in terms of U.S. dollars. Prospective visitors should realize that, unless their visits coincide with the academic year, securing reasonably affordable short-term housing in the Boston area may be difficult.
