LL.M. Student Life
The LL.M. year is often described as a year of very hard work – and very hard play. We encourage you to learn as much outside the classroom, as inside. You will face a never-ending selection of extracurricular activities and events that will enrich your experience during the year and lead to friendships and connections that will last a lifetime.

Learning Outside the Classroom
As an LL.M., you’ll be invited to join any of the 25-plus J.D. student organizations ranging from the International Law Society to the Communication, Entertainment and Sports Law Association which allows you to explore mutual areas of interests with J.D.s. Each year, two LL.M. students are elected to serve in a non-voting capacity on BU Law’s Student Government Association, keeping the LL.M. community involved and informed about campus events and issues. "Brown bag" lunches organized by the School’s Office of Student Affairs and the graduate program offices take place regularly, and feature informal talks by BU faculty and prominent outside speakers.

To bring you in touch with the world of U.S. legal practice, we organize an annual “LL.M. Discovery Series,” consisting of visits to law firms, companies, courthouses and government agencies where BU Law alumni practice. You can also volunteer to participate in BU Law’s Pro Bono Program, enabling you to use your legal skills in a public interest setting, and receive recognition on your transcript for such work.
Getting Out and About
Beyond the J.D.-organized social events and activities open to LL.M. students, the Office of Foreign Programs and other graduate programs regularly host events and excursions that connect you to Boston and New England’s myriad diversions – and that connect you to each other:
- Fall foliage New Hampshire mountain hike
- Traditional New England clambake supper
- International “Pot Luck” dinner
- Ski trip to Mount Sunapee
- Internationally - themed dinners at local restaurants
- Spirit of Boston harbor cruise
- Red Sox outing at Fenway Park
Sports clubs and BU’s state-of-the art Fitness and Recreation Facility compete aggressively for your leisure time, too.
As a BU Law LL.M. student, you will be enriched 24/7.
