The Role of the Judge in the Twenty-First Century
BU Law offered the unique opportunity to hear leading judges and academics discuss the fundamental challenges and opportunities facing the judiciary at the two-day event “The Role of the Judge in the Twenty-First Century.”
Panelists including Judge Frank Easterbrook, District Judge Gladys Kessler, Circuit Judge Alex Kozinski, BU Law faculty and others discussed the evolution of the judicial role in American society, the independence of the judiciary, the judicial role in national security, contemporary case management, the role of social science in the judicial process and the relevance of international sources of law to judicial decision-making in the United States.
Both Judge Richard A. Posner of the U.S. Court of Appeals, one of America’s leading legal thinkers, and Judge Juan R. Torruella (’57) of the U.S. Court of Appeals, delivered keynote addresses at the conference.
