International Law: Drug Regulation and the EU

Professor Vincenzo Salvatore, head of the legal sector for the European Medicines Agency (EMEA), delivered the lecture entitled “Regulating Drugs in the Global Context: Generics vs. Branded Medicinal Products in Europe” at BU Law. Salvatore discussed generic medicinal products in the context of new EU legislation, the relevance of the generics industry in the EU, centralized and decentralized MAAs, data exclusivity and patent protection, and compared the EU and US legal framework and case law regarding the Bolar clause. Professor Salvatore is a professor of international aw at the University of Insubria in Varese Italy. Before joining the EMEA in 2004, he practiced in international trade.
