Application Deadline

The deadline to submit a student’s Visiting Student Application and International Student Data Form, with supporting documentation, is May 1, 2015 for fall semester (2015) or full year and September 1, 2015 for spring semester (2016). This is necessary in order to allow sufficient time to process student visas.

English Language Proficiency

TOEFL. If taking the TOEFL exam, you must demonstrate proficiency in English by achieving a minimum score of 600 (paper-based) or 250 (computer-based) or 100 (internet-based). If you have taken the new internet-based test, your scores on the individual sections should at a minimum be 25 (reading), 25 (listening), 25 (writing) and 25 (speaking).

IELTS. If taking the IELTS exam, you must achieve a minimum score of 7.0.

ILEC. If taking the ILEC exam, you must demonstrate proficiency in English by achieving a minimum score of B2. Candidates who receive a score under B2 may still apply to the program, but may be asked to attend an intensive English language program prior to the commencement of law school studies.

In the event that a nominated student is not able to arrange to take the TOEFL, IELTS or ILEC, the student should advise us of this as soon as possible, so we can instead arrange for telephone interviews to assess their English skills.

Financial Letter of Support

As noted in the application forms, for visa purposes we need documentation showing sufficient funding to support you during your studies at BU Law. If you are supporting yourself, please submit a current financial statement or bank letter from your bank indicating that your account holds the necessary funds. If you are being financially supported by an individual other than yourself, we need a current financial statement or bank letter from your sponsor's bank showing the availability of funds to cover your personal and academic expenses at BU, plus a Sponsor Certification Form which states that he/she will pay for your fees and living expenses for the duration of your studies at Boston University School of Law. Estimated expenses are as follows for the 2014-2015 academic year:

Full academic year: $20,848
Fall 2014 semester: $10,131
Spring 2015 semester: $10,720

Please note that all documents must be originals and written in English.
