Tuition, Fees, and Expenses

The student budget, or cost of attendance, is an estimation of the total cost of attending the School of Law during the nine-month academic year, including living and personal expenses. The total budget is also the maximum amount of financial aid students may receive, including university scholarships, student loans, resident assistantships, work-study, and any aid from other outside sources.

Payment Deadlines for 2013-14 -- Please note, Online Graduate Tax students must follow the payment deadlines established for Distance Education Students.

Medical Insurance and the Sports Pass

There are two fees charged by Boston University that are not automatically included in the Student Budget because you may choose to waive them. These expenses may be added to the budget at your request.

  • Boston University Medical Insurance: $2,141 or $2,910
  • Sports Pass: $125

Medical Insurance

All students enrolled on at least 3/4 basis are required by the state of Massachusetts to have medical insurance. Students may waive the medical insurance offered through Boston University if they have their own insurance. Student Accounting Services provides additional information on the medical insurance requirement and the Waiver Form for the medical insurance on their website.

Boston University offers students a choice of two medical insurance plans:

  • Student BASIC Plan ($2,141) - The standard plan, automatically charged to your student account unless you waive it or choose the Student PLUS Plan
  • Student PLUS Plan ($2,910) - A more comprehensive plan offering additional coverage; you must request this plan

Sports Pass

Boston University charges all full-time students the fee for the Sports Pass which provides students with access to tickets for home BU hockey and basketball games. Students are automatically charged this fee unless they waive it. This fee may be added to the student budget upon request. Student Accounting Services provides information on the Sports Pass, including information on waiving the fee, on their website.
