Glendora McIlwain Putnam (Class of 1948), named a "Living Legend" by the Museum of African American History, dedicated her career to civil rights law. Putnam's work includes serving as assistant attorney general for civil rights in Massachusetts, as chair of the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination, and as national president of the YWCA, which strives to eliminate racism and empower women.

Judge Harry Elam (Class of 1951) was the first black appointee to the Boston Municipal Court of Massachusetts. He also served as associate justice of the Massachusetts Superior Court and founded the Massachusetts Black Judges Conference.
