LL.M. in Banking and Financial Law Admissions
Candidate Profile
Candidates for Admission to the Graduate Program in Banking and Financial Law must hold a first degree in law at the time of matriculation at Boston University. If the candidate received his or her legal education in the United States, the candidate must have been conferred a Juris Doctor degree or a Bachelor of Laws degree by an accredited law school. Candidates whose legal education was done outside the United States must hold a first degree in law from a duly accredited or comparably recognized law school or law faculty.
Candidates must also demonstrate a strong scholarly, academic or professional interest in the field of either banking, securities, insurance, financial services or compliance law. Admission to the bar of any jurisdiction either in the United States or abroad, as well as some years of professional experience, are preferred but not required. Finally, admission to the Graduate Program is highly competitive and depends to a great extent on the demonstration of outstanding ability in previous law studies and professional experience.
Students may begin their enrollment in the Graduate Program in Banking and Financial Law in either the fall or spring semester, although, due to sequencing of courses, students are encouraged to begin their studies in the fall semester. The program may be completed on either a full-time or part-time basis. International students who study on an F-1 visa must be enrolled on a full-time basis.
