Financial Documentation Required for Visas
Minimum Amount of Funds
In order for us to issue your visa documents, we need to receive from you official financial documentation demonstrating the availability of funds to cover estimated tuition and living expenses for the 2013-2014 academic year. If you will be bringing your spouse and/or children, or if you'll be attending the CELOP Legal English Summer Program, additional funds will be required. Visit the ISSO website for more information about estimated expenses for graduate international students and their dependents. Please contact the Office of Graduate and International Programs for further information.
If You are Supporting Yourself
If you are supporting yourself, we need a current financial statement or letter, in English, from your bank showing the availability of a minimum amount of money in U.S. dollars to cover your personal and academic expenses while you are at BU Law. The letter or financial statement must be an original (not a copy or fax) and must be signed or stamped by the bank. You can look at an example of a financial document/bank letter to help you understand what BU needs.
Support by an Individual Other than Yourself
If you are being sponsored by an individual other than yourself, we need a current financial statement or bank letter from your sponsor's bank showing the availability of funds to cover your personal and academic expenses at BU, plus a letter from your sponsor which indicates the relationship of the sponsor to the applicant and that your sponsor is willing and able to support you financially for your academic fees and living expenses throughout the duration of your studies at Boston University. All documents must be originals and in English. For your convenience, Boston University has prepared a Sponsorship Certification Form for this purpose.
Sponsorship by an Organization
If your sponsor is an organization, there is no need for a bank letter or financial statement, but we need an original letter from your sponsor which states that the organization will pay for your tuition, fees and living expenses for the duration of your studies at Boston University School of Law.
