Mr. Colleran earned his LLM. In Taxation from Boston University, his J.D. cum laude, from Suffolk University and a B.S., cum laude from Boston College, Carroll School of Management. Mr. Colleran is a senior trial attorney with the Office of Chief Counsel for the Internal Revenue Service, Large Business & International Division in Boston. Mr. Colleran practice focuses on tax shelter litigation. He has tried more than 40 complex and significant cases in the United States Tax Court. Mr. Colleran began his career with the Internal Revenue Service as a revenue agent and is a certified public accountant in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Federal Income Taxation I: LAW TX 901
This course presents a general introduction to the fundamentals of federal income tax, emphasizing issues common to individual taxpayers (but not including the federal income tax aspects of the acquisition, ownership, and disposition of property, which are the subject of Federal Income Taxation II). Topics include an overview of the federal tax system; gross income, inclusions, and exclusions; identity of the proper taxpayer; concepts and categories of deductions; and basic timing principles.
