Biography

A proud BU Law alum, James joined the CDO after serving as a litigator first in the Boston office of an international law firm, and then at a litigation boutique. In his seven years of practice, he handled matters in all areas of civil litigation, including complex commercial litigation, municipal and zoning law, appellate practice, Native American gaming law, real estate disputes, construction defects, and wage and hour laws. At the CDO, James helps students find job opportunities in a variety of employment sectors outside of the traditional law firm, government, and public interest contexts.

James earned his B.A. cum laude from Williams College and J.D. cum laude from Boston University School of Law, where he concentrated in intellectual property and served as editor-in-chief of the Journal of Science and Technology Law. After graduating from law school, he clerked for the Honorable Andrew R. Grainger at the Massachusetts Appeals Court. Prior to law school, James worked for five years as an editor at Merriam-Webster, the nation’s leading publisher of dictionaries, where he wrote and edited dictionary definitions.He also serves as the chair of the Medford Historical Commission.
