FACT OR FICTION: CRIMINAL JUSTICE ON THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL

  • Starts: 5:00 pm on Monday, October 24, 2016
  • Ends: 8:30 pm on Monday, October 24, 2016
Law and order, crime and punishment, were bipartisan talking points most of the past two years, until Donald Trump rose to prominence in the Republican primary and staked out a position on policing and sentencing reform that made it politically impossible for his GOP colleagues on Capitol Hill to deal with Democrats. Now, on the campaign trail, the divide is even wider between the candidates. On the Democratic side, Hillary Clinton must contend with the controversial tough-on-crime policies of the 1990s. On the Republican side, Trump warns of a crime wave that simply doesn't exist in most American cities. It is, in short, a particularly fertile time to be a journalist or lawyer focusing on criminal justice. Join us for an engaging and fascinating discussion on these issues and more with BU Law alumnus Andrew Cohen (COM ’88, LAW ’91), who is the Commentary Editor at The Marshall Project, a national correspondent and Contributing Editor at The Atlantic, and Legal Analyst for CBS News. Andrew with be interviewed by Linda Roth (COM ’88), an Emmy award winning producer for CNN and Founder and CEO of Fern Strategies. Drinks and light hors d’oeuvres will be served. Kindly RSVP to lawrsvp@bu.edu by Wednesday, October 19th.
