- Ends: 8:00 pm on Thursday, October 2, 2014
Please join us on October 2nd from 6:30pm-8:00pm for the Boston University School of Law annual Pro Bono Program Kick-Off where we will welcome back students to the Pro Bono Program and honor our distinguished alumnus Richard Ney with the Victor J. Garo Award for his exemplary pro bono service. Refreshments will be provided. Please RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org by September 30th. Richard Ney ('78) is founder and managing partner in the firm Ney & Adams where he practices criminal defense. Mr. Ney was one of ten Federal Death Penalty Resource Counsel in the United States, trying and consulting with defense counsel in capital cases. We will also hear from Elizabeth McIntyre (’14) and recipient of the 2014 JD Pro Bono Award. Currently an Equal Justice Works Fellow at Greater Boston Legal Services sponsored by Staples and Wilmer Hale, Ms. McIntyre will discuss how she made pro bono service part of her law school career. Current students involved in pro bono service will be available during the reception for conversation. The Victor J. Garo Public Service Award: In fall 2007, Dean Maureen O’Rourke instituted the Victor J. Garo Public Service Award to honor Mr. Garo’s heroic 30 year commitment to representing a wrongly convicted client. This annual award is given each fall to BU Law graduates whose professional lives reflect the perseverance and dedication to pro bono work demonstrated by Mr. Garo. Questions can be emailed to email@example.com.
