One Financial Center, Boston, MA 02111 Keynote Speaker: Secretary Coleman Nee, Massachusetts Department of Veterans’ Services Featured Social Innovator: Veterans Legal Services Sponsoring Partner: Highland Street Foundation About our Speaker: Coleman Nee was appointed Secretary of Massachusetts Department of Veterans’ Services in January 2011. He is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and Operation Desert Storm. Nee leads a Department focused on strengthening operations and service delivery to veterans and their families; working with federal, state and municipal partners, veteran service officers and organizations to increase the efficiency of providing benefits to veterans and families; expanding the Massachusetts Women’s Veterans’ Network to meet the needs of this growing segment of the veterans population; and addressing the issue of homelessness among veterans to provide all homeless persons who have served their country with an opportunity for permanent shelter and services that will support them in becoming self-sufficient and healthy. About VLS: Veterans Legal Services is the primary provider of free legal services for homeless and low-income veterans in the Greater Boston area, helping veterans achieve stable housing, economic security, and self-sufficiency. By locating legal clinics at homeless shelters and service centers, Veterans Legal Services reaches underserved and neglected members of society who are often reluctant to seek legal help. About SIF: The Social Innovation Forum (www.rootcause.org/social-innovation-forum) is the strategic philanthropy program of Root Cause, a nonprofit research and consulting firm that partners with nonprofits, philanthropy, government, and business to advance solutions to today’s toughest social issues. This event is intended for people interested in leveraging time, talent, resources, and relationships to support the Social Innovators now or sometime in the near future, not for solicitation or general networking purposes.
