Wendy Mariner is an internationally recognized authority in health law, having taught a variety of health law courses since 1980, including introductory health law, law and medicine, law and public health, managed care, regulating health risks, AIDS and law and health care organizations. She also is faculty coordinator for the J.D./M.P.H. joint degree program and Director of the Patient Rights Program at the School of Public Health.

As Legal Director of the Boston University School of Public Health Project on Health Reform Legislation in the Russian Federation, funded by USAID, Professor Mariner traveled to Russia to provide technical assistance in developing health legislation and regulations. She has served on numerous national and international committees, including the WHO/CIOMS Steering Committee on International Ethical Guidelines for Research Involving Human Subjects, the National Institute of Health’s AIDS Program Advisory Committee and the Executive Board of the American Public Health Association.

Professor Mariner was contributing editor for health law and ethics for the American Journal of Public Health from 1992-99 and she and Professors Annas and Glantz write regular health law columns for the National Law Journal. Her current research and teaching focuses on managed care, ERISA aspects of health insurance regulation, health reform legislation, AIDS and research with human subjects.
