Before coming to Boston University in 1992, Hugh Baxter served (in 1991-92) as U.S. Supreme Court law clerk to retired Justice William J. Brennan, Jr. and Justice Harry A. Blackmun. After his first year of teaching (1992-93), Baxter returned to clerk for Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg during her first term at the Supreme Court (1993-94). Since his 1992 appointment at Boston University, Professor Baxter has taught first-year courses in torts, legal philosophy and constitutional law. He also has taught upper-level courses or seminars in legal theory, election law and Supreme Court decision-making. In Spring 2003, Professor Baxter received Boston University’s Michael Melton Award for Teaching Excellence.
