Mr. Smith represents financial institutions and other creditors in domestic and international debt financings, debt restructurings, work-outs and bankruptcies. Mr. Smith also is past chairman of the Uniform Commercial Code Committee of the American Bar Association’s Business Law Section, a past President of American College of Commercial Finance Lawyers and a member of the National Bankruptcy Conference. He is also a commissioner on uniform state laws for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and, in that capacity, has served on the Drafting Committees to revise Articles 5 and 9 of the Uniform Commercial Code dealing with letters of credit and secured transactions. In addition, Mr. Smith is a U.S. delegate to the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law working group on secured transactions. He co-teaches Transnational Lending and Trade Financing.
