Degree Requirements

To receive the degree of LLM in American Law, all candidates must satisfy the following requirements:

a) Complete and achieve a passing grade in all required courses. Satisfactory completion of a course requires a minimum grade of C.

b) Complete not less than 24 credit hours in two semesters of residence, with at least 10, and no more than 18, credit hours in each semester. Unless the director of the graduate & international programs office (the “Director”) grants a waiver in a particular case, each student must complete all requirements in the same academic year that he/she begins the LLM in American Law program (the “Program”). Except as otherwise permitted by the Director, all courses for which a student has registered, including any additional courses beyond the 24-credit minimum, must be completed unless dropped as provided in these regulations.

c) Obtain a final weighted cumulative average of at least C+ (2.3) for all courses (including seminars) taken.

d) Receive not more than one grade of C- (1.7) or D (1.0) in elective classes.

e) Attend at least two of the three spring semester Colloquium Presentations

Commencement Information

Graduates must complete the Graduation Application May 2017  by Monday, February 13, 2017 in order to participate in commencement ceremonies.  Please ensure that you follow the application instructions carefully and submit it to the OGIP  office by the deadline.  BU Law Commencement ceremony will be held on Sunday, May 21, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. in Agganis Arena.  A reception will follow at the Fitness & Recreation Center. The All-University Commencement ceremony will take place on Sunday, May 21, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. on Nickerson Field. For more information on that ceremony, please visit this website.

Law School Convocation

When/Where: Sunday, May 21 at 9:00 a.m. at Agganis Arena, 925 Commonwealth Avenue

Line-Up: All graduates (J.D. and LL.M.) must be assembled in the Arena’s North Storage space no later than 8:00 a.m. (Enter Arena via side entrance marked “Feld Skating” on Harry Agganis Way across from BU Police Department). The procession will move into the Agganis Arena at 8:30 a.m. and Commencement ceremonies will begin at 9:00 a.m.

Guests/Tickets: Doors to the Agganis Arena will open to family members and guests at 8:00 a.m. There is no limit to the number of guests you may bring to Law Commencement. Tickets are not required for admission. Please note that the bottom half of section 114 will be reserved for special guests and VIPs.

Reception

Immediately following the Law Convocation there will be a reception for graduates, their guests, and faculty in the 4-Court Gym on the second floor of the Fitness and Recreation Center, 915 Commonwealth Ave. from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.  OGIP will be hosting additional events that week, the details of which will be forthcoming.

All-University Commencement

Commencement day activities begin at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 21 with a Baccalaureate Service in Marsh Chapel.
