Judicial Internship Program

JD 848 (A1) R 2:10-4:10 3 credits - Spring Professor Diamond CourseInfo Site

The Judicial Internship Program requires that students apply and be accepted to the program before they register for the course.  The program gives students the unique opportunity to serve as apprentices to trial judges of the Massachusetts Superior Court.  While they do not serve clients directly, students gain valuable courtroom experience as they spend time with the judges and the state's most skilled trial attorneys.  Students observe public court proceedings at the judges' side and listen to private bench and chamber discussions. Through conferences with the judges, students gain insight into the effectiveness of litigation techniques, the reactions of juries and the practical impact of legal rules.  Field placements are complemented by a weekly seminar examining trial tactics, judicial administration and professional responsibility.  Each student is required to keep a weekly journal and must investigate a topic for purposes of a final paper and class presentation about the workings of the judicial system.
