This seminar closely examines the business, statutory, regulatory and case law trends in the electronic commerce industry and the cutting edge issues that are of particular relevance in the online world today. Students will participate in in-depth discussions of emerging business models for electronic commerce and the status of Internet law in the U.S. and abroad. The seminar will focus on the view from inside existing "dot-coms" as well as on the issues traditional industry players face in transitioning to an online presence. Topics will include IP licensing, Internet privacy, electronic signatures, domain name disputes, business method patents and current Internet-related litigation.
Prerequisite or Corequisite: Intellectual Property, except with the permission of the instructor.
NOTE: This seminar does not satisfy the Upper-class Writing Requirement.
A student who fails to attend the initial meeting of a seminar (designated by an (S) in the title), or to obtain permission to be absent from either the instructor or the Registrar, may be administratively dropped from the seminar. Students who are on a wait list for a seminar are required to attend the first seminar meeting to be considered for enrollment.
