Library Hosts Exhibit Highlighting BU Law Conference “The Nuremberg Doctors’ Trial: 60 Years Later”The BU Law Library is holding a special exhibit on the Nuremberg Doctor’s Trial to accompany this Friday’s third annual Health Law Program Conference: “The Nuremberg Doctors’ Trial: 60 Years Later,” an event being held in the George Sherman Union Conference Auditorium from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The library’s exhibit has copies of the actual indictment, outcomes of the trial and historical glimpses through black and white photography. The landmark trial (officially United States of America v. Karl Brandt, et al.) took place after World War II and tried 20 medical doctors and three Nazi officials who were accused of performing Nazi human experimentation. Friday’s event will have several discussions about the Nuremberg Trial and its legacy on history, medicine and law. A number of distinguished speakers will participate in the talks, including keynote speaker Edmund Pelligrino, M.D., chairman of the President’s Council on Bioethics; Rabbi Joseph Polak, director of BU’s Hillel House and a child survivor of Westerbork and Bergen-Belsen concentration camps; and Jay Katz, M.D., who will be receiving the Pike Award for his work on the principle of respect for persons, especially in regards to human experimentation. >>View Library's Virtual Nuremberg Exhibit Reported by Elizabeth Ress Top Photo: The Defendants in the dock at the Nuremberg Doctors' Trial (Source: USHMM) |
