BU Law Alumni Honored as “Leaders in the Law”
New England In-House and its sister publication, Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly recently named two BU Law alumni “Leaders in the Law,” a title given to 15 in-house attorneys who exhibit “an uncanny ability to inspire and lead others.” The honorees are lawyers who perform good deeds beyond their “day job” and serve as mentors in their profession.
Susan H. Alexander (’81) currently works as general counsel to Cambridge-based Biogen Idec, a global biotech company that creates and tests various oncology and neurology drugs. Before moving to in-house, Alexander was a partner at Hinckley, Allen & Snyder and Fine & Ambrogne. Alexander, also a mother of four, is described by both friends and coworkers as a role model. She also serves on BU’s Alumni Executive Council and the BU School of Management Advisory Panel.
Edward J. Goddard (’90) serves as the national director of labor relations at Kindred Healthcare, the second largest nursing home operator, with 53,000 employees in 40 states. Having been at Kindred Healthcare for more than eight years, Goddard often negotiates with labor unions, and once negotiated 30 hours straight to reach an agreement. Goddard’s peers often look to him as a source for legal tips and advice.
