Academic Computing System (ACS) Accounts

ACS Accounts

The Academic Computing System (ACS) is Boston University's general-access UNIX cluster that, along other tasks, provides access to the Web, electronic mail, a variety of statistical and scientific software packages used in our coursework and research, programming languages, sophisticated text processing software, and draw and paint packages. Every Law student must have an ACS account that provides him/her with a BU login name, and a Kerberos password that can be used to access e-mail, Studentlink, CourseInfo, and many other computer resources. The ACS account is essential as it is the only venue to provide highly sensitive information such as grades, and academic standing. There are 4 types of ACS accounts that may be requested: Individual, Departmental, Student Organization, and Guest.

Obtaining an ACS account

When you are accepted into BU as either a full or part time student, faculty, or staff, you are assigned a BU ID. One can establish a BU login name and Kerberos password, by going to the on-line ACS application/registration form.

Alternatively, one can walk up to the Office of Information Technology located at 111 Cummington Street (Phone: 617-353-2784), show a current BU ID, and use one of their many dedicated terminals to process new accounts.

In either event, whether you complete the online registration form or use the dedicated terminals, you will need to present your BU ID at the Office of Information Technology to finalize your ACS account application.
