Email Accounts
The ACS account provides web-based access to E-mail (the address format is yourACSloginname@bu.edu ) Our BU-recommended messaging standard is Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP), which allows access to e-mail kept on the mail server.
The two in-house web-based IMAP mail programs popular at BU are SilkyMail and Horde. We recommend the latter, since unlike SilkyMail, Horde offers a filtering tool for unwanted (spam) e-mail.
BU's web mail is compatible with various other mail programs. It can be configured to programs such as Microsoft Outlook for Windows and Entourage for Macintosh. Other programs on which one can access web mail are Netscape messenger and Mozilla Thunderbird.
Please note: The Law School only sends e-mail to BU e-mail accounts. You can choose to simply forward your BU mail to an account, such as Yahoo or Hotmail. Even if you choose this option, you will still need your BU login name and Kerberos password for critical authentication tasks such as checking your student account, grades etc.
