Annual BU Law Pro Bono Kick-off
At the beginning of each fall semester, the Kick-off is a chance for first-year students and returning JD's to learn about the BU Law Pro Bono Program. By talking with students, faculty, and meeting attorneys and alumni of the public service community, students gain perspective on how they can incorporate public service into their lives during law school and beyond. Dean Maureen O'Rourke presents the Victor J. Garo Public Service Award to a recent alumnus/a and a more experienced alumnus/a for their commitment and dedication to public service.
BU Law Pro Bono Expo
Shortly after the Pro Bono Kick-off, the Pro Bono Program invites participating organizations and volunteer attorneys to the Pro Bono Expo to talk about placement opportunities and areas of pro bono work available to students. The event serves as a "walk-around" style program where students are able to approach multiple organizations, learn about their mission, and establish a pro bono placement. While this event provides pro bono opportunities for students, the Pro Bono Program continues to generate numerous pro bono opportunities through out the year as well.
Annual BU Law Year-End Pro Bono Celebration
Our Year-End Pro Bono Celebration is a chance to highlight the achievements of students, faculty, and alumni involved in pro bono work over the past year. Dean O’Rourke presents pro bono certificates to all graduating JD and LLM students who have completed their pro bono pledges. In addition, the Dean presents awards to an alumnus and a faculty member for their outstanding pro bono work as well as to the graduating JD who has completed the highest number of hours of pro bono work.
