Explore Boston: Arts & Culture, Sports and Fun
Boston is a wonderful cultural and intellectual hub, and students should not underestimate the power of their Terrier cards to help them explore it with less impact on their wallets! Student discounts are plentiful here in Boston, and from reduced entrance fees and ticket costs to discounts at restaurants, there is no excuse not to enjoy a break while taking in some of Boston’s treasures. Below, find some ideas to get you started in exploring some of the popular cultural landmarks that are at your fingertips as a student here.
Start exploring the arts right here at BU via Arts Live@BU! The University has recently launched a wonderful new resource for arts-based programming on campus and in Boston. Arts Live @ BU provides a central portal to the broad range of artistic, cultural, and creative pursuits across BU’s campuses, opportunities to attend affordable off-campus cultural events, and ways for students, faculty, staff, and visitors to interact with one another through the arts in the spirit of Boston University. Here you can find information about arts-related programs, with a spotlight on events featuring and produced by BU students, as well as what’s happening in the Greater Boston arts community.
Greater Boston is home to a number of world-renowned museums. A visit to the Museum of Fine Arts is completely free with your BU ID, while both the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum and the Institute for Contemporary Art offer student discounts with a valid ID. You can also keep an eye out for special promotions and free admission evenings. For a quick creative fix, stop by BU's Art Gallery right on campus. Step across the Charles River into Cambridge for a visit to the Havard Art Museums, the Harvard Museum of Natural History, or the MIT Museum. Stretching further beyond the art world, try a trip the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Musuem, the Musuem of Science, or the New England Aquarium.
Theater, Music and Movies
If music is of interest, consider purchasing the Boston Symphony Orchestra's "college card" which allows students (with a valid student ID) to attend mutliple BSO performances for as little as $25. Investigate the availability of student prices and rush tickets at touring Broadway productions in Boston's theater district, at the Boston Ballet and at numerous venues throughout the city via ArtsBoston.org. And don't forget to check out the current season at The Huntington Theater Company (in residence here at BU!) or to take advantage of discounted movie tickets available for students at Regal cinemas (visit the Activies Information Desk at the GSU).
With Fenway Park located practically on our campus, and with the Celtics and the Bruins playing nearby at the TD Garden, you do not have to go far to enjoy a good professional game! Show your school spirit with student tickets to BU's own athletic teams. As a student at BU, you also have a front row seat to sporting events that are particularly unique to the city, such as the Head of the Charles Regatta and the Boston Marathon.
