Field Placements
Students work in a variety of legal settings under the supervision of an experienced attorney mentor. Placements are arranged in three ways:
- Some placements are competitive (e.g. the Securities and Exchange Commission), and students must apply directly to the placement site for consideration along with students from other area schools.
- A number of placements are committed to taking Boston University Law School students each semester (e.g. the U.S. Attorney’s Office). Upon acceptance to the program, students interested in these placements meet with Professor Knight who assists in arranging these placements.
- Some students who have particular substantive or practice interests arrange a placement on their own after consultation with Prof. Knight. The placements available offer exposure to a variety of legal practices including civil and criminal litigation, environmental, civil rights and health care, among others.
Students must work a total of 200 hours over the course of the semester (approximately 16 hours per week). Students are supervised in their legal work by an experienced attorney mentor.
