Judicial Internships
Offered to approximately six students each spring semester, the Judicial Internship Program gives second- and third-year students the unique opportunity to serve as apprentices to trial judges of the Massachusetts Superior Court. While they do not serve clients directly, students gain valuable courtroom experience as they spend time with the judges and the state's most skilled trial attorneys.
The Field Work
Students observe public court proceedings at the judge's side and listen to private bench and chamber discussions. Through conferences with the judges, students gain insight into the effectiveness of litigation techniques, the reactions of juries and the practical impact of legal rules.
The Course Work
Field placements are complemented by weekly seminars examining trial tactics, judicial administration and professional responsibility. For specific course information, click here. Each student is required to keep a weekly journal and must investigate a topic for purposes of a final paper and class presentation about the workings of the judicial system.
Faculty
The Judicial Internship Program is taught by Professor Judi Diamond, who also teaches in the Civil Litigation Program.
