BU LAW STUDY ABROAD PROGRAMS

Educational Objectives

BU Law’s carefully-crafted foreign study portfolio is designed to prepare students for careers that will inevitably bring them in touch with clients whose interests transcend national boundaries. Our educational objectives in offering these opportunities are many.  As a whole, our programs seek to:

  • Expose students to important international and transnational legal perspectives;
  • Immerse students in foreign educational institutions recognized worldwide for their academic excellence;
  • Teach students the substantive laws of a specific country or geographical region(s) of interest; or the international aspects of a particular field of practice;
  • Instill an appreciation of different forms of legal analysis and problem-solving approaches;
  • Teach students how lawyers trained in non-U.S. legal systems handle client matters;
  • Give students a new and informed perspective on their own U.S. legal educations and training;
  • Help students establish and expand their global professional networks;
  • Build students’ intercultural legal skills and cross-border competencies in anticipation of entering today’s global workforce;
  • Help engender intercultural awareness and enhance students’ interpersonal and problem-solving skills in multicultural, diverse settings.
