How to Apply for a Study Abroad Program

Only second- and third-year BU Law students are eligible participate in the programs. Transfer students from other US law school are not eligible to participate until they have completed a year of full-time study at BU Law.

Application Requirements:

  1. Complete an application and email it, as an attachment, to the Office of Graduate and International Programs at jsmock@bu.edu.
  2. Submit an updated copy of your resume or CV.
  3. Submit TWO essays:
    • One essay describing your interest in the program and the educational and professional objectives you hope to achieve during your semester abroad.
    • A second essay describing a law school class or activity that has had particular significance for you (if the program is in a foreign language, the second essay should be written in that language)
  4. Submit a faculty letter of recommendation (The faculty member may email the recommendation directly to the Office of Graduate and International Programs at jsmock@bu.edu)
  5. Oxford applicants only: submit a writing sample demonstrating your skills in legal research and analysis
  6. Complete an interview with Assistant Dean John Riccardi and Associate Dean Chris Marx. (Interviews will be scheduled after the application deadline)
