Tuition, Fees and Expenses

The following tuition and fees reflect the charges for full-time students in the J.D. program for the 2008-2009 academic year:

2008-2009 Student Budget

The student budget is an estimation of the total cost of attending the School of Law during the nine-month academic year, including living and personal expenses. The total budget is also the maximum amount of financial aid students may receive, including university scholarships, student loans, resident assistantships, work-study, veterans' benefits and any aid from other outside sources.

Medical Insurance

All students enrolled on at least 3/4 basis are required by the state of Massachusetts to have medical insurance. Students may waive the medical insurance offered through Boston University if they have their own insurance. Student Accounting Services provides additional information on the medical insurance requirement and the Waiver Form for the medical insurance on their website.

Beginning with the 2008-09 academic year, Boston University is offering students a choice of two medical insurance plans:

  • Student Complete Plan ($1,466) - the basic plan, automatically charged to your student account unless you waive it or choose the Student Plus Plan
  • Student Plus Plan ($1,997) - a more comprehensive plan offering additional coverage; you must request this plan

Sports Pass

Boston University charges all full-time students the fee for the Sports Pass which provides students with access to tickets for home BU hockey and basketball games. Students are automatically charged this fee unless they waive it. This fee may be added to the student budget upon request.
