Meet the Staff
Christine Marx, Esq., Associate Dean for Student Affairs
![]() |
Chris Marx is a native of Wisconsin (yes, she loves cheese and the Packers!) but adopted Boston as her home in 1984. She received her B.A. and M.S.W. degrees from the University of Wisconsin. Before entering law school, Dean Marx worked in Chicago for The Chicago Tribune. She subsequently received her J.D. degree, cum laude, from the University of Wisconsin Law School, where she was selected to Order of the Coif. During law school, Dean Marx was selected as an intern with the Honorable Robert Warren, U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Wisconsin.
After law school, Dean Marx clerked for the Honorable R. Thomas Cane, Wisconsin Court of Appeals, and for the Honorable William Bablitch, Wisconsin Supreme Court. After moving to Boston, she was a staff attorney for the U.S. Court of Appeals, First Circuit. Dean Marx then practiced law at a small Boston firm, concentrating on litigation, corporate and appellate work. Although she enjoyed practice, she also wanted to combine her law and social work degrees, and found the perfect opportunity at BU Law. She joined the School as Assistant Dean in 1987, and has taught the First-Year Research & Writing Seminar.
Dean Marx has served as Chair, Chair-Elect, Secretary, and on the Executive Committee of the AALS Student Services Section. She also is a member of the Board of Directors of Lawyers Concerned for Lawyers in Massachusetts, the sole lawyer assistance program in Massachusetts exclusively dedicated to helping judges, lawyers and law students with the many personal and professional issues of life in the law.
Dean Marx loves music, art, travel, sports, reading, cooking and not-too-strenuous workouts (to compensate for the cooking!).
Josh Cooper, Esq., Assistant Director for Student Affairs

Josh joined the Student Affairs Office in May of 2005 as the student services coordinator. Before coming to BU Law he practiced at a small firm outside of Worcester. The firm's primary focus is real estate law and Josh mainly dealt with residential transactions representing various banks throughout the area. Also an advocate of mediation and other forms of alternative dispute resolution, Josh is a certified mediator in accordance with M.G.L. Chapter 233 Section 23C. He has spent time mediating for a non-profit organization and for Small Claims Court in Cambridge.
Although an attorney, Josh seemed headed down the path for higher education long before he arrived at BU Law. As a law student Josh ran the Student Ambassador Program and served as a member of the Board of Governors for their Student Bar Association. As an undergraduate he managed an Admission Outreach Program, was a peer counselor at the Career Center, and also spent two years hearing Appeals cases through the college's judiciary system.
Outside of work Josh volunteers for his undergraduate alma mater. As part of their alumni recruitment team he helps out with college fairs and interviews in Massachusetts. When not doing things related to education, Josh can typically be found running or biking somewhere, or playing soccer and basketball. Recently he has started an informal BU Law faculty/staff and student pick up basketball game. A great chance for everyone to get out the classroom frustrations! Hopefully there will be more frequent hoops down the road.
Josh earned his B.A. from Hamilton College as a double major in Government and Studio Art. He received his J.D. from Suffolk University Law School. Josh also has an Ed.M. with a specialization in Higher Education Administration from Boston University School of Education.
